This map was derived from state geologic maps, Atlas of Canada, Beikman (AK), as interpreted (inaccurately) by me. I’ll include more details and make corrections later. Here’s a full-size TIFF (12Mb).

This map looks pretty dubious to me. The Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak don’t have calcareous bedrock, as indicated by the map. There is some limestone in Interior Alaska and in Southeast, but I doubt that it is as extensive as shown on the map. It might be good to leave this map off the webiste until you get more accurate information. Ed Berg

Thank you, Dr. Berg. This is very helpful feedback. As I hinted at in the caption, I had almost no geological experience when I drew up that map. It was intended most of all to show the sorts of layers we hope to some day make available for the study area. I will emend the caption to make it clearer that this it is a rough draft.
